Reasons for leaving the rural areas

Hi, Ethan here again. This is me writing to you about why he left San Gabriel in the first place. While I was reading it seemed as if his hometown was a pretty decent rural place, but then did I realize truly why he left. He left mainly because of the lack of food (famine)/ crop failure, lack of services such as hospitals, not a lot of work and pay, and droughts (which of course would lead back to crop failure. I am guessing he left to New York to send money to support his family back home. He might of gone to New York because of readily available jobs, quality education, medical care, the chances of prosperity, etc.
